Our work - both our paid employment and work as unpaid caregivers - is an important source of fulfillment. But work can also involve high levels of stress. When the stress exceeds our capacity to cope, we may feel drained, empty, irritable, or useless. We’re also likely to blame ourselves for feeling this way. In other words, work stress often leads to burnout.Fortunately, research shows that self-compassion is a helpful antidote to burnout. The caring stance of self-compassion helps us to create work-life balance, be less overwhelmed by stress, and encourage rather than blame ourselves when things are difficult. This workshop will use lecture, discussion, and experiential exercises to help you learn to be self-compassionate so you can reduce work stress and burnout. Simple tools will be provided to help you cope on the job, so you can support yourself when you need it most. The workshop is relevant for the general public as well as to practicing mental health professionals. CE credits are available, see below for more information.
