Paul Gilbert, FBPsS, PhD, OBE, is the founder of Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) and a leading voice in understanding the evolutionary roots of human suffering and healing. A Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Derby and Consultant Clinical Psychologist with the Derbyshire Healthcare Foundation Trust, Dr. Gilbert has spent over 35 years researching evolutionary models of psychopathology, with a particular focus on shame and the treatment of shame-based difficulties. His pioneering work led to the development of CFT, an approach now used worldwide to support emotional regulation, healing, and resilience. He is the author and editor of 20 influential books, including Mindful Compassion, The Compassionate Mind, and Overcoming Depression.
