Fierce Self-Compassion Workshop

Fierce self-compassion involves taking action in the world to protect, provide and motivate ourselves to alleviate our suffering. It means saying “no” to others who are hurting us – drawing our boundaries firmly. Or saying “no” to our own harmful behaviors, so that we can be safe and healthy. It means giving ourselves what we genuinely need – mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually – without subordinating our needs to those of others, so we can be authentic and fulfilled.

This unique workshop led by Dr. Neff explores the action-oriented side of self-compassion including protecting ourselves and drawing boundaries. Prior experience with self-compassion is recommended before taking this course. (If you are new to self-compassion, we recommend taking Kristin's Introduction to self-compassion workshop on June 4th or else take her recorded Introductory workshop.)  If you’ve already learned about self-compassion, this course will take you one step further as you learn how self-compassion can help you speak up and claim your power.

5-Day Mindful Self-Compassion Intensive, Sedona Mago Retreat Center

This offering is an intensive version of the empirically-supported 8-week Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) program, which combines the skills of mindfulness and self-compassion to enhance our capacity for emotional wellbeing. It is the only full version of the program that Kristin Neff (along with Chris Germer) is teaching this year, and it will be in person! Program activities include short talks, experiential exercises, meditation, group discussion, and home practices. MSC is an opportunity to explore how we typically respond when difficulties arise in our lives and to learn tools for becoming a warm and supportive companion to ourselves.

This program is designed for members of the general public. Meditation experience is not necessary to participate in MSC. All are welcome!

Self-Compassion for Caregivers Workshop

Self-Compassion for Caregivers: Caring for others without losing yourself

Think of all the generous, kind people you know who constantly give compassion and care to others, yet continually beat themselves up. Most of us are quite practiced at being supportive and giving to others, especially those of us who find ourselves in caregiver roles.

This workshop will present theory and research on the key role that self-compassion plays for caregivers. A variety of practices will be taught that can help individuals maintain equilibrium in difficult caregiving situations.  We will also explore how to meet our needs in a balanced and fulfilling manner.

Self-Compassion: Learning to be a Good Friend to Ourselves

Self-compassion involves treating ourselves kindly, like we would a good friend we care about. Rather than continually judging and evaluating ourselves, self-compassion involves generating kindness toward ourselves as imperfect humans, and learning to be present with the inevitable struggles of life with greater ease. It motivates us to make needed changes in our lives not because we’re worthless or inadequate, but because we care about ourselves and want to lessen our suffering. This program will provide simple tools for responding in a kind, compassionate way to ourselves in daily life. Through lecture, discussion, and experiential exercises, you will learn how to stop being so hard on yourself; handle difficult emotions with greater ease, and motivate yourself with kindness rather than criticism. Practices will also be introduced to help ease stress for caregivers. This program is relevant for the general public as well as to practicing mental health professionals.
