SUMMARY:Introduction to Fierce Self-Compassion\, with Kristin Neff
DESCRIPTION:When most people think of self-compassion\, they consider the tender\, nurturing aspect of this mindset that allows us to be with our pain and accept ourselves in a supportive way. But self-compassion can be fierce as well as tender. \nFierce self-compassion involves taking action in the world to protect\, provide\, and motivate ourselves to alleviate suffering. It means saying “no” to others who are hurting us – drawing our boundaries firmly. It helps us to take a firm stance against injustice or unfairness without dehumanizing others. \nThis workshop will focus on the fierce aspect of self-compassion through lecture and experiential exercises. By learning to balance fierce and tender self-compassion\, you can begin to speak up\, draw boundaries\, and stand up for yourself with greater confidence.  \nThe workshop is most relevant for those who already have some experience and knowledge of self-compassion. \nCE Credits are available for live attendance at this workshop.  See below for details. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Self-Compassion for Shame\, with Laila Narsi
DESCRIPTION:Shame can occur when we feel judged by others or when we judge ourselves. It can happen when we do something wrong and when we’re entirely innocent of wrongdoing. Whenever we feel bad about ourselves\, for whatever reason\, there is a touch of shame. \nShame makes us go small\, go silent\, or go away. Ironically\, shame itself is not the problem. The problem is that there is often no one home to work with shame. \nSelf-compassion is the antidote to shame. In this 3-hour workshop\, we’ll take a unique\, non-pathological look at shame through the eyes of self-compassion. \nAfter learning about the theory and research on shame\, you will have an opportunity to explore the personal and cultural causes of shame in your own life within the context of self-compassion\, then to resource yourself in the midst of shame as it arises in the moment. \nAt the completion of this activity\, participants will: \n\nExplain the theory and research on shame and self-compassion.\nDescribe how self-compassion is an antidote to shame – the 3 paradoxes of shame.\nIdentify personal childhood and cultural disconnections that lead to shame.\nApply new self-compassion practices to relieve the burden of shame in daily life.\n\n  \nWho can benefit from this workshop? This workshop is open to anyone interested in learning more about shame and self-compassion. It is an introductory workshop that starts the conversation on shame. It is important to note that it is a resource-building workshop rather than actual psychotherapy. This course is also open to professionals\, such as psychotherapists\, mindfulness teachers\, and educators\, who wish to bring fresh insights and skills for working with shame into their work activities. \nCE credits are available\, see below for more information.

SUMMARY:Self-Compassion for the LGTBQ+ Community\, with James Rosser
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is offered on a sliding scale basis.  Pay what you can afford. \nThe LGBTQ+ community faces daily challenges in our world\, especially right now. Coming together as a community with our allies allows us to revisit the essential nature of our pride in who we are. \nThe kind of genuine pride we need is brought about by heartfelt self-compassion. This self-compassion comes from learning to gently\, kindly\, and lovingly show up for ourselves daily and knowing how to care for and love ourselves. We draw boundaries to protect ourselves (kindness)\, find others who are like us (common humanity)\, and see and speak what is true (mindfulness). We ask ourselves what we need and listen to the answer. We take steps to fulfill our longings (kindness) supported by knowledge of our authentic needs (mindfulness). Mindfulness and deep kindness help us envision the world we want to live in. The world we all need to live in.  We will celebrate the wisdom and artistry of our own LGBTQ+ siblings as they reflect on self-compassion. \nThis workshop will help people in the queer community find strength and self-acceptance while navigating unique challenges. You will learn powerful self-compassion practices tailored for LGBTQ+ experiences\, fostering resilience and authentic self-expression. \nWho can benefit from this workshop? Anyone who identifies as part of the queer community\, or else who is a parent of or works closely with LGBTQ+ people.

SUMMARY:Teaching Teens Self-Acceptance and Coping through Self-Compassion\, with Karen Bluth
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, you will learn self-compassion tools that can be taught to teens to help them support themselves through challenging times. Through acquiring these vital coping skills\, teens learn how to be less self-critical and how to be their own inner coach or own best friend. Studies show that teens who learn how to be more self-compassionate report lower stress\, anxiety\, and depression – and even less suicidal thinking. An overview of this research will be presented in the workshop. The workshop will be fun and interactive – you will learn practical self-compassion skills by engaging in activities and exercises. Finally\, you will discover how to implement the self-compassion skills you have learned with the teens in your life. \nWho can benefit from this workshop? Parents\, educators\, social workers\, coaches\, counselors\, therapists\, or anyone who works with teens. CE credits are available\, see below for more information.

SUMMARY:Conversation with Ashley Kuchar
DESCRIPTION:Ashley Kuchar\, PhD is a former star college basketball player and the founder of Fail Better Training\, which teaches athletes\, coaches\, and professionals how to use self-compassion to improve their performance. Ashley completed her dissertation under the supervision of Kristin Neff at the University of Texas at Austin.  She developed the RESET resilience program\, an empirically supported self-compassion training program that was found to increase athlete adaptive coping and athletic performance. \nMany people in the business and sports world assume that self-compassion interferes with motivation and performance\, but building inner strength and acting as a wise supportive coach actually helps us achieve our full potential. \nJoin us for a conversation as we explore the research on self-compassion for athletes\, and Ashley’s impactful work in fostering resilience and well-being in sports and beyond!

SUMMARY:Self-Compassion for Work Stress and Burnout\, with Kristin Neff
DESCRIPTION:Our work – both our paid employment and work as unpaid caregivers – is an important source of fulfillment. But work can also involve high levels of stress.  When the stress exceeds our capacity to cope\, we may feel drained\, empty\, irritable\, or useless. We’re also likely to blame ourselves for feeling this way. In other words\, work stress often leads to burnout. \nFortunately\, research shows that self-compassion is a helpful antidote to burnout.  The caring stance of self-compassion helps us to create work-life balance\, be less overwhelmed by stress\, and encourage rather than blame ourselves when things are difficult.  \nThis workshop will use lecture\, discussion\, and experiential exercises to help you learn to be self-compassionate so you can reduce work stress and burnout. Simple tools will be provided to help you cope on the job\, so you can support yourself when you need it most. \nThe workshop is relevant for the general public as well as to practicing mental health professionals. CE credits are available\, see below for more information.

SUMMARY:Integrating Self-Compassion into Therapy\, with Chris Germer
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will help clinicians integrate self-compassion into their therapy practices. There is growing empirical evidence for self-compassion as a transdiagnostic and transtheoretical mechanism of action in therapy. This workshop is an introduction to the theory\, research and practice of self-compassion-based therapy\, comprehensively described in the new book by Mindful Self-Compassion teachers Galia Tyano Ronen and Shari Geller – Grounding Psychotherapy in Self-Compassion. We’ll explore the three levels in which self-compassion can be integrated into psychotherapy—compassionate presence\, compassionate relationship\, and compassionate interventions. Special attention will be given to working with trauma and shame. This workshop consists of talks\, short meditations\, discussion and a role play demonstration. \nWho can benefit from this workshop? Mental health professionals and social workers. CE credits are available\, see below for more information.

SUMMARY:How Caregivers can Nurture Self-Compassion in Children\, with Jamie Lynn Tatera
DESCRIPTION:Many caregivers wonder how to help young children deal skillfully with their difficult feelings and treat themselves with kindness. Each child is unique\, and there’s not a one-size-fits-all approach for helping kids grow self-compassion. In this workshop\, we will explore how you can customize self-compassion for particular children\, including modeling\, conversation\, and play. You will experience many of the playful activities and metaphors that Jamie Lynn developed for her Mindfulness and Self-Compassion for Children and Caregivers (MSC-CC) program. For instance\, you’ll learn how animals can be a gateway for conversations about feelings with kids\, and how you can make the components of self-compassion accessible for children. You will leave equipped with effective ideas and creative exercises that will help you support yourself and the young children in your life. \nWho can benefit from this workshop? Parents\, grandparents\, clinicians\, social workers and educators of kids. The target age is caregivers of kids 6-12\, but the content is also relevant for older and younger children. \nJust announced: Earn CE Credits with this workshop. See below for more information.

SUMMARY:Conversation with Richard Schwartz
DESCRIPTION:Richard Schwartz\, PhD is the internationally renown creator of the Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapeutic approach (see him talk about it here).  IFS helps people identify internal parts such as protectors\, managers and exiles\, and develop compassion and appreciation for how these parts try to keep us safe.  IFS also introduces the idea of Self\, which is behind our parts and is naturally compassionate. He’s the best-selling author of many books\, including Introduction to Internal Family Systems and No Bad Parts. His recent book You Are the One You’ve Been Waiting For helps people to stop outsourcing love and compassion to their romantic partner and instead find true satisfaction and fulfillment within. \nJoin us for a compelling conversation as we delve into the role of self-compassion in Dick’s life and the role that self-compassion plays in bringing healing to our internal parts and our relationships.
