SUMMARY:Essentials of Self-Compassion\, with Kristin Neff (through CSMC)
DESCRIPTION:A three-hour online workshop by Dr. Kristin Neff\, October 11th 11-2pm CT\, sponsored by CMSC. \nSelf-compassion involves treating ourselves kindly\, like we would a good friend we cared about. Rather than continually judging and evaluating ourselves\, self-compassion involves generating kindness toward ourselves as imperfect humans\, and learning to be present with the inevitable struggles of life with greater strength and balance. It motivates us to make needed changes in our lives not because we’re worthless or inadequate\, but because we care about ourselves and want to lessen our suffering.   \nResearch shows that self-compassion is one of the most powerful sources of coping and resilience we have available to us\, enhancing both mental and physical health. It is also a skill we can learn and practice. \nThis workshop will provide an introduction to the basic concepts and research on self-compassion through lecture\, discussion\, and experiential exercises. You will gain practical tools to bring it into your daily life\, including how to support yourself in difficult moments; work with distressing emotions; and motivate yourself with kindness rather than criticism.  \nThe workshop is relevant for the general public as well as to practicing mental health professionals.

SUMMARY:Self-Compassion for Caregivers with Kristin Neff (through CMSC)
DESCRIPTION:A three-hour online workshop by Dr. Kristin Neff\, June 21tst 11-2pm CT\, sponsored by CMSC. \nMost of us are quite practiced at being kind to others\, especially in caregiver roles.  Whether we have a high-needs child\, an elderly parent\, an ill partner\, or are a professional caregiver such as a doctor\, nurse\, therapist\, or teacher\, we know to give support and comfort to the people who need us.  But how many of us offer that same level of compassion to ourselves? \nIf our caring just goes one way – outward but not inward – we will eventually become drained and depleted.  Self-compassion is crucial for caregivers because it allows us to resource ourselves so that we can continue our good work in the world. \nThis workshop will present theory and research on the key role that self-compassion plays for caregivers. A variety of practices will be taught that can help you maintain equilibrium in difficult caregiving situations.  You will also explore how to meet your needs in a balanced and fulfilling manner. \nThe workshop is relevant for the general public as well as professional caregivers.

SUMMARY:Fierce Self-Compassion with Kristin Neff (through CMSC)
DESCRIPTION:A three-hour online workshop by Dr. Kristin Neff\, February 15th\, sponsored by CMSC. \nWhen most people think of self-compassion\, they consider the tender\, nurturing aspect of this mindset that allows us to be with our pain and accept ourselves in a supportive way. But self-compassion can be fierce as well as tender. \nFierce self-compassion involves taking action in the world to protect\, provide and motivate ourselves to alleviate suffering. It means saying “no” to others who are hurting us – drawing our boundaries firmly. It helps us to take a firm stance against injustice or unfairness without dehumanizing others.\nThis workshop will focus on the fierce aspect of self-compassion through lecture and experiential exercises. By learning to balance fierce and tender self-compassion\, you can begin to speak up\, draw boundaries\, and stand up for yourself with greater confidence. \nThe workshop is most relevant for those who already have some experience and knowledge of self-compassion.
