This workshop will present theory and research on self-compassion, which burgeoning empirical literature has shown to be powerfully associated with psychological wellbeing. Data will be presented indicating that self-compassion is a powerful source of emotional resilience, reducing depression and stress while boosting happiness, physical health and creating better interpersonal relationships. This workshop will help professionals, caregivers, and parents learn simple tools for responding in a kind, compassionate way whenever they are experiencing difficult emotions. We will also learn how to motivate ourselves with self-compassion rather than self-criticism and why this is actually more effective. Practices will be introduced to help ease caregiver stress and to cultivate equanimity.
