This 5-day residential program is an intensive form of the internationally recognized, eight-session Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) training developed by Christopher Germer and Kristin Neff. It is open to laypeople and professionals alike. Participants will learn to: understand the science of self-compassion, practice self-compassion in daily life, motivate yourself with kindness rather than criticism, meet difficult emotions with greater ease, transform challenging relationships, learn tools to manage caregiver fatigue, and teach simple self-compassion practices to others. Self-compassion involves treating ourselves kindly, like we would a good friend we cared about. Rather than continually judging and evaluating ourselves, self-compassion involves generating kindness toward ourselves as imperfect human beings. This workshop will provide simple tools for responding in a kind, compassionate way whenever we are experiencing painful emotions. We all want to avoid pain, but letting it in — and responding compassionately to our own imperfections without harsh self-condemnation — are essential steps toward living happier, more fulfilling lives. The materials presented in the workshop are drawn from the 8-week, empirically supported Mindful Self-Compassion program developed by Chris Germer and Kristin Neff. Through discussion, meditation, and experiential exercises, you will gain practical skills to help bring self-compassion into your daily life. This talk will present theory and research on self-compassion, which a burgeoning empirical literature has shown to be powerfully associated with psychological wellbeing. We spend most of our time living in our heads.

It’s natural to think it’s our best — or only — source
 of information. But as a result, we miss out on vast amounts of wisdom, intuition, creativity, and brilliance — all accessible from our bodies. Most of us never learned how to read the body’s subtle signs. We weren’t taught how to slow down and listen to what our bodies are telling us. So we shut down, tense up, and stress out.

It’s time to change all that. Our well-being depends on it! Let’s learn the language of our bodies and train ourselves to recognize and pay attention to the cues and messages they are always sending. Let’s discover what happens when we tune in to our body sensations and access what we know from the inside out.
